King David once wrote, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the skies are the work of His hands.” I imagine him penning that under a big sky early in his life, while he was out on the range. David wrote it into a song that later got compiled into the book of the Psalms, a list of wonderful songs that the all stars wrote. God speaks to people so clearly through His creation. It is so obvious to me that our world, though corrupt and fallen, was created with compelling purpose, breathtaking beauty, and brilliant design. When I am in the creation I hear from the Lord most clearly. I am most inspired under a million stars.
The world was created for a purpose. It was the set for a the wildest love story in history. He didn’t create pavement, sky scrapers, or free ways. His mission behind the development of every particle was to capture the heart of His most prized creation. He made man to be just like Him with the ability to love. God wanted a lover. He wanted the abundant glory and praise of His beloved and that is why He gave the world to Adam and Eve. It’s yours; take it for a spin. God made each of us for two ultimate purposes. He created us to worship Him by enjoying his abundant gifts forever and to produce more offspring that will worship Him. It may look like Ann and I are just out there rock climbing but we are worshipping! We are enjoying what God has done. It is essential that we do this, for it is what we are made to do.
Ann and I have made it a priority to spend a considerable amount of time and money to be in awe of the Creator. We recommend the same to you. God didn’t make everyone to be rock climbers, but I have never met a person that couldn’t find awe in the creation. God made every one of us to worship Him. So do it. Not just in a building on Sunday, but out in one of His rock palaces or lanscape amphitheaters. If all else at least go somewhere at night where you can see the Milky Way.
Psalm 19
The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.
It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
It rises at one end of the heavens
and makes its circuit to the other;
nothing is deprived of its warmth.
The law of the LORD is perfect,
refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
The precepts of the LORD are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
The fear of the LORD is pure,
enduring forever.
The decrees of the LORD are firm,
and all of them are righteous.
They are more precious than gold,
than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
than honey from the honeycomb.
By them your servant is warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.
But who can discern their own errors?
Forgive my hidden faults.
Keep your servant also from willful sins;
may they not rule over me.
Then I will be blameless,
innocent of great transgression.
May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,
LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.
