A wedding at Sylvan Lake, from my perspective, is one of the most beautiful places in the Black Hills! When Ann asked me to sing at the wedding, gosh, I was honored and blessed and excited! The suspense kept building as I waited to hear what the song was that I would be playing and singing, and then…the title The Big Mistake. Hmmm…I was a little shocked, but looked through the song, and looked again, and maybe the third or fourth time the simplicity and words of the song clicked in my head, despite the title.
“The choreography of a coincidence
At the turning point there was eternity behind a moment’s glance
It was for you and me the timing made us laugh
The fact that anyone could find their only one along this darkened path”
The third verse was my favorite. The beauty of God’s creation we all were engulfed in and the love Ann and Joe had for each other was radiant. The darkness of the world that we live in is looking for the love of Christ along that oh so dark path.

They taught us kids in school between the recess breaks That the universe just sorta fell together like a big mistake It started with a bang that sent the pieces flying And then it cooled and twirled into dinosaurs and dandelions
It was a big mistake to have eyes that see To have love like this inside of me To have lips that smile as I swim your kiss To have minds that will forever every part of this
All the moonlight shrouded in the clouds above And the autumn leaves and the falling love The still reflection in the moonlight lake All they said, it was a big mistake, it was a big mistake
Now back in science class through the looking glass We were magnifying little ancestors of our ancient past Watch ’em break a couple chromosomes, wait a zillion years or so And get an ostrich, a jellyfish, a kangaroo and a Romeo

All the moonlight shrouded in the clouds above And the autumn leaves and the falling love The still reflection in the moonlight lake All they said, it was a big mistake, was a big mistake Was a big mistake
Karen did a wonderful job playing this song right at the ceremony. It was one of my favorite parts.
David Wilcox really captured our beliefs perfectly. Ann and I believe that we were created with purpose. Even the love inside of us was by design. Unfortunately, most people today believe that our entire universe was a cosmic mishap and that we are all just products of evolution.
According to evolution there is no purpose for our lives, it’s all just a struggle to survive and when we die, the lights go out and we enter back into this crazy cosmic cycle. Most evolutionist believe that all living things originated from a single cell. This cell was formed when lightning accidentally struck earth’s prebiotic soup that that was brewing billions of years ago. Fortunately, this science fiction idea has been refuted by science, logic, and common sense.
Why would a cosmic explosion ever create two lovers who just enjoy each other’s presence? Only when we see the world as created by God can we really fully experience our lives. Our hearts were made to be in a constant state of awe. We are designed to bask in His majesty.
Last week I enjoyed a late night kiss with Ann. Zion’s shear towers, silhouetted by stars framed her moonlit hair. My breath was taken away. I don’t care what my science teacher said, our love was by design.
