A couple days ago I took a few moments to relive our wedding, browsing through photos of the ceremony, reception, and the events that surrounded our big day. It still feels like it was just yesterday. I love how colorful and lively everyone was; the images of our wedding were perfect. I couldn’t help but think of what an amazing photographer we had.
Joe and I had very unique, extended wedding plans, including a rock climbing trip to Colorado and Wyoming with some of our closest friends the week before the festivities began. We really wanted to find someone who could capture us on an adventure in the mountains. Planning and going on the trip was easy, but finding the right photographer took some work. We, of course, wanted an outstanding photographer who was proud of their work, but everyone of that caliber either wanted more than the entire wedding cost, or simply wasn’t willing to step out of the box and join us. At least, not until we called Abram Eric Landes, who immediately said, “Yes” and quoted us an affordable price.
Abram generously gave us his time for an entire week, flying all the way from D.C. to South Dakota, and was so much more than just a photographer. He went the extra mile in every way, and we bonded together with him over our trip in the mountains. Abram was able to capture some brilliant images of us in the moment.
Abram is an extremely versatile, artistic, and flexible photographer who is always personable, easy going, and fun. When we tied him in and started climbing the 600 foot Flat Iron in Boulder, CO we took him way outside of his comfort zone. We’d decided earlier in the day to climb together in one party – all six of us. Usually parties of this size split into two groups, but we wanted to stick together for the photographs and camaraderie. The climbing was pretty easy for an experienced climber, but because we had a couple beginners on the trip and had started in the afternoon, we found ourselves climbing late into the night. There were definitely moments of tension between everyone, even times when people were mad or angry. But the only person I never heard complain once was Abram. I could tell he was terrified, uncertain of the route, and wondering what he had gotten himself into, but he remained calm through every part of our climbing adventure. When we got back to the car he said, “Last time I was invited to an ‘adventure wedding’ we rented go carts…I have never been taken beyond my limits at a wedding.”
Not only did he keep his cool on the rock, but he was also very calm and professional on our wedding day (the biggest wedding he’d done up to that point). With his help, we found some really unique spots around Sylvan Lake to use as our backdrop. He knew exactly what to do at the reception and did a wonderful job of not missing anything. For most of the wedding I hardly knew he was even there! He was a natural.
It was the most beautiful I have ever felt, and as I looked through the images I was filled with a wonderful feeling. I have so many people to thank for making my wedding a day I will never forget, but if it wasn’t for Abram I wouldn’t be able to relive each second and see each smile.
