While reading the Word before bed a few nights ago I came across this Proverb:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
It wil be health to your flesh,
And strength to your bones.
Honor the Lord with your possessions,
And with the first fruits of all your increase;
So your barns will be filled with plenty,
And your vats will overflow with new wine.”
I was challenged, inspired, convicted, and enticed all that the same time, so I read the passage again to Ann. I had two simple observations. One is that it seems like God desires something really meaningful and fulfilling for us. And two, we can only find the life that we were made for if we trust and depend on the Lord to give it to us.
I must ask myself, “Do I trust in the Lord with all of my heart? Do I acknowledge Him in everything? Do I reverently fear Him and flee evil? And do I honor Him with all that I own?”
I realized that what I really want is not what I often settle for. And if our marriage is to ever be what God meant it to be then Ann and I are going to need to trust in the Lord with everything. God’s offer is good but He really wants our Hearts.
Dear God,
We trust you, Father. Help us with the parts of us that still need assurance. We acknowledge your beautiful work in our hearts and in our love story. Thank you for your grace. Direct us, Father; we want the life that you have in mind for us. Give us a fear of you, Lord, so that we can turn from evil. We give you our possessions. Lead us in the ways that we should give. We want our marriage to bring you glory.
Amen
