Ann and I are still pretty new to blogging but here are a few things that we have learned that could help you.
1.) Commit – If you are going to blog, set it in your heart to write on a regular basis. Sometimes we don’t feel like writing, but because we have committed to do it, we set aside time to find inspiration and to get our projects up online. Ann and I have committed to each blog once a week. Some weeks come easier than others but our readers get something new twice a week.
2.) Don’t overcommit – Don’t commit to blog more than you can. If you overcommit, your writing will show it. Overcommitment always ends in a burn out, so I recommend under-commitment. Like go for two blogs a month at first and work your way up.
3.) Be real – If you blog about your life share both the good and the bad. We have found that people like to read the bad more than the good. The journal entries about Ann’s and my fights have received the most traffic. Just be real in whatever your theme is. Marriage is glorious and marriage is brutal. All of life is that way, so whatever you decide to share, try hard to be authentic.
4.) Get ahead – When you set aside a few hours to write, write two entries at once, or more. If you can get ahead you will feel a lot less stress when the time comes to actually post your blog. If I put together two blogs then I can take a week off to really organize my thoughts. All of the writers that I have met who post daily don’t actually write daily; instead they write a week’s worth of blogs in one or two settings.
5.) Less is more – If you can say it in 400 words don’t use 1,000. People don’t read much anymore. Blogs that are over 700 words are likely to not be read. If your blogs are long, break your paragraphs up with pictures or a short video.
If you ever need any help with your writing, just let us know. Please send us a link to your blog so that we can follow you. We love reading blogs as much as we love writing them!
We have recently been getting a number of inquiries about who built our Wild Love Story website. Well, we did! Ann and I have a small design company that builds websites for individuals and businesses. Our graphic design team can accomplish whatever is on your mind. If you are thinking about taking your blogging seriously we can help you.
