The First Dance

Posted by Guest Writer on 22 Jun 2011 / 1 Comment

Joe and Ann’s wedding was one of the most beautiful ceremonies I have attended in my lifetime. The reception that followed captured both their personalities and spoke of their shared interests, inviting everyone to take part and rejoice in the “wild love story”.

For their first dance, Joe and Ann asked a dear friend (Torie Frederich) to sing a song. Torie then invited me to play guitar to accompany her. We originally agreed on a popular love song, but ultimately could not get the song together without a guy to sing the male part. As we continued looking for a love song that would be appropriate, I remembered a song I had learned a few years back by Bethany Dillon. The minute I played it for Torie, she knew that would be the song we would give to Joe and Ann for their first dance.

The song we chose, “For My Love” by Bethany Dillon, is about a man being captured by a woman’s beauty, and going to the end of the world to fight for her love. Joe and Ann have struggled through many things during their many years of long distance, but Joe has always been intentional about fighting for Ann’s heart, for her love. The song came together really easily, and as we watched Joe and Ann dancing together for the first time as a married couple, Torie and I knew that it was the perfect beginning of Joe and Ann’s amazing adventure together as a married couple.

For My Love
By: Bethany Dillon

Walk towards me
I want to hear
The heavens singing over you
When you breathe
And look at me
I want to be captured by you

Gaze into my eyes
And let me know you’d fight
Thousands, for my love
Slip your hand in mine
Ask me to dance with you tonight
Just ask me for my love

I want to hide
What’s deep in my eyes
I’m scared to be known by you
But when I turn my head
And see you there
I want to be pursued

Gaze into my eyes
And let me know you’d fight
Thousands, for my love
Slip your hand in mine
Ask me to dance with you tonight
Just ask me for my love

A dream I won’t wake from
A story that will never end
The ground your feet walk on
Let me be there, let me be there

Gaze into my eyes
Let me know you’d fight
Thousands, for my love
Slip your hand in mine
Ask me to dance with you tonight
Just ask me for my love

Gaze into my eyes
Let me know you’d fight
Thousands, for my love
Slip your hand in mine
Ask me to dance with you tonight
Ask me for my love
